So far working on the Women’s Brick Initiative has been a thoroughly satisfying adventure. It doesn’t matter who we talk to about our mission, friends, family, cohorts or employees at the LEGO Group, everyone is super excited about what we’re doing . This is exhilarating and terrifying in equal measure. Luckily we aren’t going on this adventure alone, we have each other and we have a little help from our friends.
Custom Bricks
If you’ve been to any major brick convention you know that adult fans of LEGO love to display 1 x 6 custom bricks on their name badges. These bricks show the various affiliations and interests of any hard core LEGO fan. These often act as a conversation starters and the first step to making new brick friends.
Alice and I knew from the beginning that we wanted to have our own custom 1 x 6 brick available to give to attendees of our Women’s Brick Initiative (WBI) events. We wanted a visible way to proclaim our affiliation as well as to create an opening to talk about this movement we’re starting.
Dan Kees, the owner of Promotec and an expert on specialty printing stepped in to solve our problem. Dan is an extremely generous person and a BIG fan of LEGO. So when Alice was chatting with Dan about the WBI he immediately offered his printing services… for free! We have amazingly talented and generous friends!
Us: Dan can you print our logo on 1 x 6 bricks? Dan: Yes! Us: Dan can you print on 1 x 2 bricks? Dan: Of course! Us: Dan can you print on minifigure torsos? Dan: Why not? Us: Dan is there anything you can't print on? Dan: Not yet!
Thank you!
Honestly we couldn’t have created these fun give aways without the generous help of Dan Kees. He didn’t think twice about helping us. He simply jumped right in and created these awesome bricks and torsos for us. We love our logo and any chance we have to show it off is a win. So thank you Mr Kees for helping us to create branded merchandise that we can use to spread the WBI love. Thank you for your incredibly generous gift of time and materials. You are a prince among men!
Going forward we will be looking for more opportunities to create bricks to help identify MOC’s (my own creations) created by WBI members, lanyards, stickers and maybe even custom clothing. We think that pink, green and orange goes with everything! As these items become available we will have them at future WBI events as well as for sale on the blog.
Until then, keep building, playing and designing with everyones favorite bricks!
