Lighting Workshop at Bricks Cascade

Bricks Cascade is right around the corner and we are super excited to be debuting this years workshop theme – Lighting. Last year we introduced you to us and our areas of expertise. This year we are going to get down and dirty and learn a new skill – how to work with lighting.

The Build

This year Alice as designed a mini Hobbit House for you to build and install lighting in. This will be a fun little build to practice the basics of lighting integration.

We’ve all seen amazing lighted LEGO builds and sometimes its hard to imagine how the builder got there. With this small build we will all be taking this baby step together. We will be going from I wish I could to I did.

The Charm

In 2020 JacQueline will help you to build on the skills you learned at last years workshop. She will show you how to create earrings or charms using our Women’s Brick Initiative symbols: hammer, camera and gem. Through this activity you will have fun taking your love for LEGO further by wearing them as a fashion statement.

JacQ will have two activities set up for your to choose from: a pair of earrings or 3 charms for a necklace. If you created a charm at least years event, be sure and bring it with you and you can add these new charms to it! If not, don’t worry, we will have additional cords on hand for you to purchase.

The Photography

Once you have your Hobbit House built stop by Shelly’s photo set up to take a photo. She will have two scenes set up for you to use: winter and spring. And for all your Narnia fans Mr Tumnus and his Lamp Post will make an appearance so you can experiment with in camera lighting tricks.

In addition to these simple set ups Shelly will also have a Beauxbatons Carriage and a 3 in 1 Townhouse / Toy shop set up and lit for more photography fun.

Because we want to allow plenty of time for talking and connecting we’ve extended the workshop to three hours. It seems two hours just isn’t enough time to get done accomplish what we want to do! We promise there will be plenty of time to get through all three activities and plenty of time to connect with your fellow convention attendees.

The workshop is Friday February 28th from 12:30 tp 3:30pm. The cost is $40 and includes

  • Hobbit House micro build
  • Parts to create a pair of earrings or three charms
  • a two stud accessory bag for all your WBI swag
  • three triple A batteries for your lighting kit
  • City accessory polybag courtesy of The LEGO Group

The actual lighting kit will be supplied by BrickStuff and will be available at the event for purchase. This lighting starter kit will include everything you need to light the Hobbit House as well as a Lantern and Light post ready to plug in and add light to any scene.

You can sign up for the workshop here. You can sign up for BricksCascade here.

We understand this is a long workshop and that it overlaps with a few of the games. If you would like to come late or leave early we feel that this will not impact your experience. The workshop is set up for you to pick and choose the activities that best suit your interest and are all pretty free-form in scope. We encourage you to sign-up and lets all have a fabulous Bricks Cascade!

Thanks for supporting the WBI and we look forward to seeing you at Bricks Cascade!
