Making holiday ornaments with the WBI

Published December 11, 2019 By Shelly Corbett | 0 Comments
Love this design by Chris McVeigh!

Recently we had our first in-person LUG meeting and it was awesome! Alice invited all the local members of the WBI to her house to make holiday ornaments out of LEGO bricks. Hanging out in a casual, relaxed atmosphere was a nice change of pace from the hub-bub of conventions.

A LUG takes shape

I will be straight up and tell you that I’m a huge fan of Alice Finch. I would follow that women in to any battle or crazy scheme. Alice has this unique combination of generous warmth combined with steely resolve. This was on display as she led our meeting from light snacks, to the meeting agenda and ending with everyone building three ornaments.

Lots of ideas where bandied about regarding raising awareness of the WBI in 2020. We have some awesome new swag in the works as well as banners and bricks to incorporate into builds done by WBI members. We are also exploring ideas about group builds to display at upcoming events. Look for the results of these ideas as we begin to put together our agenda for 2020. And if you want to get involved, please reach out. The more the merrier!!

Build to Give

One of the reasons that Alice hosted this ornament building event was to encourage us to take part in The LEGO Group’s annual #BuildtoGive campaign. If you are not familiar with this program the rules to participate are pretty simple and the goal is fabulous!

Visit a participating store or use your LEGO® bricks at home to build a fun holiday ornament. Display it in-store or share it online with #BuildtoGive. For every ornament built and shared, we will donate a LEGO set to a child in need of play.

The LEGO Group
Choosing is so hard to do!

Even though you couldn’t be with us to make an ornament, why not get your own bricks out and make an ornament. This way you can help us and the entire LEGO community make the holidays a little brighter for 1 million children world wide. Be sure and post your ornament to social media and tag both #build to give and #womensbrickinitiative.

Everything is better when done together!

Happy Holidays from all of us at the WBI!

ps – You only have a few more days to enter our Better Together contest!
